Dear Friend of El Centro Hispano:

We are writing to tell you about exciting plans that are in the works at El Centro Hispano. We have just begun a capital campaign to finance a new Technology Center and we need your help to turn our dream into a reality.

As you may know, El Centro Hispano works tirelessly throughout the year to strengthen Hispanic families by providing them with information and referral services on issues related to housing, employment and immigration. It offers outreach, counseling, education and advocacy programs to help families achieve self-sufficiency. In addition, El Centro Hispano offers a variety of workshops and classes on a wide range of subjects to help the Hispanic community learn English and understand the educational, medical, financial and cultural systems of the United States while preserving and enriching their own traditions.

Last year El Centro Hispano served more than 16,000 clients ó almost 2,500 more than the previous year. As El Centro Hispano celebrates its 33rd year of providing vitally needed services, we ask your help in extending those services to the area of technology.

We plan to make the new Technology Center available to everyone, from our youngest clients to our senior citizens, as well as to others in the community. Students who donít have computers at home will be able to work on school assignments after school, to access the Internet for research and to take specialized online classes. Adults will be able to use the technology for various types of job and computer skills training, to use e-mail and to learn English.

We have already received two generous donations for the Technology Center which will pay for the construction of the Technology Center building (to be attached to El Centro Hispano on South Lexington Avenue), for the replacement of an antiquated boiler and for computers.

More funds are needed, however, to realize our dream of having a fully functioning state-of-the-art Technology Center available to the White Plains Hispanic community and others one year from now. We need to finance computer stations, software, printers, a whiteboard, supplies and more.

At El Centro Hispano we believe that education is the key to success in this country and that no education is complete without facility and experience with computers and technology. Please help us establish a much-needed Technology Center for the Hispanic community in White Plains by sending your tax- deductible contribution in the enclosed envelope.

Wishing you the best today and always, we thank you in advance for your generosity.
